This is one of hundreds of photos we just purchased from the descendants of a book author who died in 2008 at age 90. My business partner and I will be putting these photos on this store over the next few months. The postage for this sent 1st class is .50, but I can send up to five different 8X10's for the same .50. So I will refund all the postage back to you except the original .50 if want two or more of the photos on my store up to five. You can order six to ten different photos for .95 shipping total for all ten if you want that many. The simplest way to do it is that I will refund all that extra postage that you paid back to you if you live anywaher in the U.S. Foreign orders will also get a hefty refund for ordering multiples.
This one is a COPY of the original probably done in the years leading up to the release of his first book, "The Cars That Hudson Built." This photo didn't make it into the book. But others did.
This is the 5th batch going up, and indeed these are from the estate of John Conde (1918-2008). I was
acquainted
with John over many years since 1974, as I was a swap meet vendor/dealer in auto literature, and he also sold literature, photographs and his books at many shows. His Granddaughter contacted me in early June 2020 about purchasing the last of his literature--a roomful that had been moved to his house down near Detroit when they had sold his other house up near Traverse City Michigan after he had died. My business partner and I paid generously for that room full, though 99% of it was literature and a few owner's manuals for Nash and AMC, with some Studebaker and 50's Hudson literature thrown in. The photos were perhaps only a 4" stack that I think were related to his research on future books. His massive collection of photographs were sold to a dealer in California years ago.
I have pictured some of his book about Hudson, and his own definition of what these photos are. Many are early "canvas-backed" factory-issued photos. Others are more modern COPIES of early canvas-backs on Kodak paper that he had commissioned to have reproduced as he prepared to do a 2nd edition/revision of his earlier book that I have pictured. I call them all "factory original" photos even if they were later copies. All the photos are from his estate--none are copies that I have done, nor will do. Many photos are the only ones that I have, and once they are sold, that's it. I will attempt to say whether a photo is an early canvas-back when I list it, but cannot guarantee that I'll remember that point on each and every one. If in doubt, please email me.
The back of the book gives you his bio, and how successful he was in his lifetime--see the photos above. He was in Public Relations for American Motors, and indeed was there at Nash in the same office before it became American Motors in 1954. John was first and foremost a historian and student of the American Auto Industry. The book isn't for sale currently because many of the photos I am selling were printed in the book or intended for the 2nd edition.
Condition is excellent but not mint.
NOTE: I notice lately that when a customer makes multiple orders from my store, Ebay stacks up all the individual postage costs and customers are having to pay it. I have made a practice of refunding all that extra postage back to the customer's Paypal account and doing it 3 times a week.
Shipped in a stiff mailer, well wrapped and protected. I combine shipping for two or more purchases that go into one package, and I refund your shipping overpayments.
