Description
This door and hardware were removed from a Canadian cheese box factory. The factory was built in the mid-1800s. The factory was a water-powered sawmill. Originally the sawmill was a grist mill built in the early 1800s, but the grist mill burned down and was rebuilt and repurposed as a cheese box factory. The factory is/was approximately 3 miles from the Old Stone Mill located in Delta Ontario. The Old Stone Mill is the only surviving pre-1812 grist mill in Ontario and is a Canadian National Historic Site.
This barn door and hardware is from the nearest mill to the Historic Site, literally off the same road.
This door saw a fair amount of use and was actually used to section off one of the rooms in the mill as it was the only interior door to go between the main room and the side room. The door glides along on the rollers as good as it ever did and the wooden door is as sturdy as when it was built. This door could be put directly into regular use if the buyer wishes without worry of damage or structural failure.
All the original screws for mounting the rail are also included.
The door, the hardware, the screws (everything) is completely untouched - the original patina is 100% intact. Everything was removed and is being carefully stored awaiting the new buyer.
If this were a car, it would be the antique Maserati "barn find" of the decade. If you are looking for an absolutely authentic and original piece to finish off that special room in your home, then you have found it with this piece. You get the best of both worlds, the absolutely authentic look of a real period piece and it can actually be used without concern.
I am happy to answer any and all questions. I am happy to work with the buyer to arrange whatever shipping requirements are needed. The costs of shipping are at the buyer's expense. This piece is located in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (Canada's capital city), but I can have it carefully transported to Ogdensburg NY for shipping out of the US if that is easier for the buyer. Free local pickup is also available. I will also ship to any international destination. I realize this is not the easiest item to ship and I will do everything I can to help the buyer in making this a smooth and hassle-free transaction before, during and after the sale. I know the value of this piece and I want to see it treasured by the new buyer.
I am open to offers, but I will include for free a pair of authentic hinges from the same era from the same mill if my buy-it-now price of 00 USD is met.
Thank you for looking.
